South Dakota joined 15 other states in filing an amicus brief in support of Grace v. District of Columbia, a district court decision that halted Washington D.C.’s enforcement of its “good reason” requirement in issuing CCWs. Grace was joined by the pro-gun LGBT group, Pink Pistols, in filing the lawsuit that challenged D.C.’s “good reason” standard.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley said in his brief that D.C.’s “good reason” standard violates the Second Amendment. Below is part of Jackley’s statement via Newscaster1 South Dakota:
“The Second Amendment gives law-abiding citizens the fundamental right to bear arms for the defense of themselves, their families and their homes. As Attorney General, I have a strong interest in the protection of our law-abiding citizens’ right to keep and bear arms,” stated Jackley.
